How to Find the Best Fertility hospital for You

How to Find the Best Fertility hospital for You

Finding the best fertility hospital for your treatment, take out time out to research the hospital you consider. Don’t just select the first place that called you back; pursuing fertility treatment is a big step that involves huge money and lots of time.  The best hospital for your friends may not be the best for you. So ensure you ask your friends, doctor, insurance company for recommendations, but be sure to investigate the hospital you consider yourself. Let’s say you’re having trouble getting pregnant, and so far your gynecologist has given you advice and ran some basic tests.

They may have run a blood test for hormones or asked you to record your basal body temperature for a couple of months. They have probably also performed an ultrasound and a hysterosalpingogram (HSG) or sonohysterography.

At the same time, your husband has been checked out by a urologist. When it comes time to diagnose the problem and suggest solutions, you may wish there were a single doctor you both could see. That’s where the infertility specialist comes in. A fertility specialist can provide big-picture advice. Recommend you see one if you’re a:

  • A woman who has had more than one miscarriage
  • Women under 35 and haven’t gotten pregnant after 12 months of trying
  • Women over 35 and haven’t gotten pregnant after 6 months of trying
  • Man who’s had a poor semen analysis

Before you start searching for a fertility hospital, find out the type of tests and procedures you may need and give some thought and time as to how far you’re willing to go with this process. Infertility treatments can cost thousands of Naira and involve strong drugs or hormones. Knowing your limits will keep you from being talked into some new procedure that you don’t want and can’t afford.

When it’s time to select a good fertility clinic, do thorough research ahead of time.  Check the success rates of fertility hospitals in the country. Also, keep in mind that some fertility hospitals that looked great several years ago may have had a lot of turnover in staff and may have gone down in quality.

Questions to consider when choosing a doctor are:

  • How long have the medical doctors, nurses, and technicians been working there? High staff turnover can be a sign of bad management and can contribute to mistakes.
  • Which procedures do you consider, and how often? Be sure the hospital has a wide range of infertility remedies that are technology-driven.
  • Do you have age limits for your treatment? If so, it’s a good sign that the hospital is concerned about ethical issues.
  • What much does the treatment cost? While you don’t want to choose strictly on price, it’s good to consider the costs ahead of time before getting into it.

If you call the clinic and they say they’re too busy to answer your questions, try elsewhere. They may not have time for your questions once you’re a patient. If a fertility hospital promises you success, especially success in just one cycle, walk away. There’s no such thing as a 100% guarantee with IVF, no matter what reason for your infertility.
